I want to go to England and walk beside the river Thames
I want to go and see the ruins of ancient churches, and step the stride of kings
I want to ride onto the Moors on horseback where knights did make their wars
And travel cobblestone passages between ancient wooden doors.
At night I bet they’re battles rage still
When the moon is full and high
And I bet that valiantly their banners unfurl
To catch the eyes of the passerby
I want to go to Ireland, to Scotland and to Wales
Where spirits as old as memory itself
Cast coins into wishing wells
I want to step barefoot upon the places where red haired queens once proudly stood
In places that were new when Rome was old
As old as ancient ever could
Is it possible to love a place
A place you’ve never been
Or is it memory built deep within me
From another life, another when
I believe there is a part of me that remebers
A place where the sun never set
A script written in my bones, my very being, that wants to go home again.
Could that be why I am drawn to movies/shows/stories that take place during those era’s? Was I once an honorable warrior for a baron or king? Very nice piece that certainly set the wheels in motion! Your aunt went years ago and still rants and raves about the experience.
I hope you can come here. I can look out of my office window and see Celtic fields systems, an Iron Age hillfort, the site of a Roman fort, an abandoned village, a medieval castle, and the building I’m sitting in was built in 1819. There’s so much, so many stories, and we’re so used to it that sometimes we forget how privileged we are. Thank you for reminding me.
Ugh…..I would die lol to see the tomb of Elizabeth the first? I would just die
I think you’d enjoy Poet’s Corner in Westminster Abbey, too.
I’m shipping myself fed ex lol
Don’t forget to put airholes in the box!
Take a picture and show me? I’ll use it in the poem.
Go before you can’t anymore. I used to spend a lot of time there but it was never enough. And then one day I couldn’t walk anymore. The end of my trips. Don’t let that happen to you because it will be one of the most glorious times of your life and you don’t want to miss it.
